ABOUT THE FOUNDER
CHRIS SUITT
OWNER INSTRUCTOR TRAINER
When humans do their worst to other humans, first responders run into harm’s way while the general public runs away. An example was September 11, 2001, when a coordinated terrorist attack took place on US soil.
911 dispatchers, fire, law enforcement, coroners/medical examiners, EMT, ambulance drivers, emergency room and forensic personnel swung into action. Afterwards, the military followed suit as depicted in the painting, “I’ll Take It From Here.” Therefore, I will use “first responder” for all professionals who see what they see when they run toward “human created chaos, carnage and confusion.”
So, what qualifies me to create, let alone teach, a course for first responders? The answer is quite simple – a career’s worth of experiencing it work.
As a graduate of a Level III Modular Peace Officer Academy and weekly patrolling with my deputies at the Riverside Sheriff’s Office as a Chaplain since 2002, I’ve experienced and gained my own “first hand stories” of what first responders bring into their brains through their senses when humans inflict their worst. This can rewire their brain causing an injury.
I’ve also “seen” the major coping mechanisms used by first responders when injured. Those methods can negatively affect both their families and careers if they don’t have the first aid skills to begin the healing process from seeing what they signed up for.
Because of this, it’s been my mission for over 20 years to help and train first responders using what I’ve come to name the FREEdom First Aid Process℠. It is simple, practical, and effective. It can be used in real time by the first responder on themselves or with others at the scene, before the next call, at the station/base or at home.
Using a structured debrief checklist, they can work through and download their job-related experiences, including the “It’s no big deal” or “I'm fine” situations, to begin rewiring their brain towards health. By doing so, both their personal and professional lives can stay what they desired – fulfilling and thriving.
This practical family and career saving training is not religious. It is based on and backed by research and peer reviewed neuroscience studies, appropriately attributed throughout the training curriculum.
Though this training has been reviewed and approved by a trained and licensed psychiatrist, it isn’t therapy. It’s tactical. It isn’t theory. It’s made field usable by first responders for first responders.
Injuries are unavoidable, but healing shouldn’t. Immediate action has been proven to reduce long-term damage. You’re already doing this for your body, why not for your brain, your most important first responder tool? Let’s answer that together.
“Recently, Chaplain Suitt presented a brief synopsis of his wellness class at a patrol briefing. I was interested in the content, but was equally compelled to attend his class, because of who he is. A man who dedicates so much of his own time taking care of other people’s wellbeing should be listened too. My wife Terri and I attended the class and it was great. The scientific insight into the psychological and mental injuries cops are exposed to and how they should be treated and cared for, was beneficial for myself and my super supportive wife. With all the attention given to mental health these days, this class should be mandated by POST and required for anyone who wants to work in law enforcement. Highly recommended!”
